There seems to be a curse that haunts the rock n’ roll industry: death. We’ve seen it since the genre’s inception; a young star rises to fame, only to be caught up by the drugs, sex, and fandom that their lives are cut all too short, depriving the world of more of their music forever. However, what if we could go back in time and change the course of history forever? Once such company did that. Well, at least virtually. Phojoe, a photo restoration and missing persons photo editor, did just that by imagining what a group of rocks starts would look like if they hadn’t met their untimely demise and were still alive today. Let’s take a look at some of their craziest concepts:
Mama Cass, born Cass Elliot, was a member of the 60s folk group The Mamas and The Papas. It was rumored that she died whilst choking on a tuna sandwich. We’re hoping that’s not true, but if she could have managed to avoid tuna she would be 76 today. A rockin’, boppin’ grandma for sure.
Lead singer of Nirvana and poster child of the 90s grunge movement, Kurt Cobain met his untimely demise when he blew his brains out with a shotgun. Personally, I find their music a little overrated, but I can certainly appreciate what he did for the rock genre. If he would have stayed of the happy pills, he would be 50 today. Wonder if he could still head bang with a dad bod?
A member of the brother/sister duo The Carpenters, Karen Carpenter sadly succumbed to complications with anorexia. Maybe she and Mama Cass could have traded tips. Anyway, this angel-voiced crooner would have been 67 today.
John Lennon was a member of The Beatles, one of the most famous rock groups ever to exist. Sadly, he was shot and killed by a psycho in 1980, depriving the world of some truly peace-loving, tree-hugging tunes.
Hendrix, revolutionized the rock world and the way a guitar was played. A notorious pothead and druggie, he died choking on his own vomit while in a drug-induced stupor in 1970. He would have been 74 today.
Lead singer of The Doors, Jim Morrison added a whole new level of glam to the rock world. He died at the young age of 27 in Paris, and no exact cause is known even to this day. He would have been 73. His picture makes it look like he would have hosted a travel show on PBS.
Elvis Presley defined rock n’ roll. He emerged in the 50’s as a pop culture icon and his swinging hips and curled lips made young girls swoon all over the world. Rumor has it he choked on a peanut butter and pickle sandwich. He would have been 82 today and looks exactly like my grandpa.
Reggae. Notice in his old-version picture he still has the red marijuana eyes. Something tells me he never would have given up the weed.
